Belle Starr

GREETINGS!

We went on a little road trip today to see if we could find where Belle Starr - the outlawess from last post - had her home. And we got lucky and found it right off. It's only about 25 miles from our house, and very close to the Canadian River. The river is damned up now and makes the Eufaula Lake which furnishes power to a HUGE portion of Eastern Oklahoma; us included of course. I wonder what Belle would think if she could see all that now!

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures I was able to get. They are building a replica of her home fairly close to the road, but the gate was closed and we couldn't get up close to it. Will have to go back later. We did find the trail that leads to her gravesite and the place where her original home was.

This picture is at the entrance to the drive off the highway. Belle called her place Younger's Bend in honor of her first outlaw husband, Cole Younger.

This sign marks the beginning of the trail to Belle's grave and home site.
I can't remember what it says beside don't block the driveway! :) But I think it was something about a small fee and the dates the trail was open.

In a way it was disappointing not to get to see more, but it was also neat to see what we did, and try to imagine the outlaws galloping around the area! So much for my history lesson.

More on the road trip, perhaps tomorrow. Until next time, take care and may you be aware of God's blessings for you.
